Tasks in Pissouri

In this activity, participants had to explore the main attraction in our local village; Pissouri. They had to go through a lot of walking and take many pictures. They were able, in this way, to explore the main monuments, facts, and beauties of our hosting village. We are glad that the participants were cooperative and took some wonderful pictures.

TASK 1: THE FOUNTAIN (In the square of the village there is a graphical fountain with some art on it. What is the name of the fruits that there are on it (not real but sculped ones)? Can you find the history that is behind this fountain? Some villagers may help you. Take a photo of the group in the fountain with all your group name TASK 1.)

This fountain is made in the form of flowing vine juice, the Village is famous for grapes and vine juice so the share it in the square of the Village! Until twenty years ago Pissouri have a very large production of sultanina grapes which were exported across the world. 5-6 plants were operating 24/7 packaging the sultaninas. Firstly it was a pit, then people decided to rebuild it and to make a memories about a pit they decided to make a fountain. They put the mountain to symbolize that people used to drink water in this pit.

  • The name of the fruit - grapes. It used to be a pedestrian street, but cars still went there. In order to stop them, they build the fountain in the middle of the square.
  • It was created in 1993, before that the cars used to go through the square. Pissouri used to export grapes everywhere around Europe, especially England. They had lots of grapes.

Task 2: Communal Amphitheater of Pissouri is a new amphitheater with old designing (coming from ancient theaters); find it and find the place that you can talk and hear you in all over the place. A photo of this place with your group or a member of the group on it will be your Task 2

Task 3: There is a point of view in the village. Where is it? Can you find it? Next to this point of view there is one of the best Cafeterias in the whole area of Limassol County, what the name of the Cafeteria? What that means in Greek? Go there and take a photo of the view from this point or from Cafeteria with the people that works there. (TASK 3 the name of the photo).

TASK 4: HILL VIEW (We are hosting in a lovely hotel (Hylatio Tourist Village) but there is one hotel which is in the top of the hill. What's the name of that hotel? Can you visit it to see the view from there? Can we have a photo of the hotel named TASK 4?)


Task 5: VRAKAS Also, Pissouri is growing and there are a lot of restaurants. In Pissouri square there is a restaurant named VRAKAS. What that means? How is this restaurant rely on the history and traditions of Cyprus? What is the name of the owner of the restaurant? It will be plus if you have a photo with the owner of this restaurant in Pissouri square with all of your group (Task 5).

  • Vrakas means the national costume of the Greek men, only the lower part. There is a traditional frame where you can take pictures with the traditional costumes - that's how it relates :)
  • Vrakas in the national clothing, trousers. These costumes is how they rely on the history and traditions. Name of the owner is Haris.

Task 6: There are a lot of taverns in the square and around. Can you also find Platea restaurant and café? What Platea means in Greek? A photo with the owners has to be also in your must for the village with name Task 6.

Tasks 7: What is the main church of the village? Can you find it? (There are a lot of churches and small churches in the village, but we want the main one. A photo of the group in the church is a must for our tasks (Task 7)

Task 8: Near the Communal Amphitheater there is a small church with a big hagiography of the Virgin Mary embracing us. Can you find it? What is the name of the church? We need one photo of the group from the garden in the yard of the church with the name TASK 8.


Task 9: Pissouri last 40 years started to be a touristic place and in Pissouri there is an Inn and restaurant which it was the first that opened and is opened from the beginning of the touristic period in Pissouri without stopping period. Is this restaurant open today? What is the name of the restaurant? Can we have a photo of your group in the gardens of the restaurant? Task 9 it must be the name of the photo.

Task 10: Now that you already know a lot of places in Pissouri, discuss with your team, decide, and find a place or an object that reminds you sexuality education and explain how this is connected with our project. That means that we need also a photo of this, and your team named as Task 10.

Answers

  • It reminded us on how derogative people call women when all they want is to be sexually active, especially comparing to men.
  • It ruins stigma behind sexuality and sexual education and shows that it's normal to discuss.
  • The word means 'freedom' so everyone can love who they want and so what they want.

Task 11: In Pissouri square there are 2 Monuments in the village. Can you also find the reason of the monuments? Where is it? Who was it and what he has done so to have a monument in Pissouri village? Task 11 in the photos.

Answers 

  • Neoklis Antoniadis. He was the councilator of Pissouri. The reason was to show his huge contribution to the economic and social development of Pissouri. It is located opposite Vrakas.
  • One next to Pissouri square and one next to Amphitheater. Neoklis Antoniadis - community leader. Aristides Potamitis - he had presidency.
  • In the Main Square, he was the mayor of the Pissouri and he contributed a lot to the community.

Task 13: If you finish all your tasks, you could have your coffee with your team, you can discuss and you can enjoy your free time till 20.00 that you are doing to have dinner (remember in the dinner we have free red and white wine). 


Dinner will be in the restaurant of Task 6 and we are going to have traditional salads with dips and souvlaki, seftalies and chicken and for vegetarians moussaka. The bus will leave at 10.30 for the first group and 11 for the second group.

Task 14: Impressions - give your impressions from the experience

  • Amazing!! And a bit tiring, but still great:) Wonderful team building activity! Waiting for the dinner and OUR PRIZES!!!!
  • We are very happy after spending some time in the city. It was wonderful time for us to practice our English and discover Pissouri. Thank you for that opportunity!!!
